August 5, 2019

 Dear TMHS Parents:

I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer so far, I know I have! I was able to spend some quality time with my family both here in Telluride and on the east coast.  I am excited to hear about where your summer took you.  I look forward to seeing everyone on campus. School starts Wednesday August 21st.  At TMHS everything we do is brought back to our vision statement and this year will be no different:

(if you would like a magnet of our vision and logo please pick one up at the front desk)

In addition to quality time with my family, I attended several professional development opportunities with teacher teams to help bring our vision to life. The first was the Tointon Institute for Educational Change with a focus on school culture and continuing to build highly effective teams and make school fun for all. Those teachers left inspired to continue positive growth at TMHS. The second training was the AVID Summer Institute. At this point over 50% of our staff has been officially trained in AVID strategies with the remainder of the staff receiving training monthly in faculty meetings. Many of our teachers spent  time this summer growing their instructional tool box to provide the best educational experience for kids.

As we grow and improve we have been able to add to our TMHS staff. Please join me in welcoming them to Telluride:

Brandon Bredlau: Brandon worked as a para-professional this past year but his love and certification are teaching physical education. Mr. B will be teaching both MS and HS PE and weight-training classes.

Maria Casanova: Mrs. Casanova is certified in both math and special education. She joins us from the Front Range and is joining the TMHS Special Education Team.

Wayne Clark: Mr. Clark joins us from the Boulder area and will be joining our HS Social Studies department, teaching Economics and 10th grade World History.

James Taschek & Laura Iancone-Taschek are back from a year of teaching in England. Mr. Taschek will be teaching MS Technology and Ms. I is teaching 8th grade Humanities.

Jen Tougher: Jen is replacing Kim Spaulding as the TMS Administrative Assistant. She also in the Attendance Clerk for both THS & TMS. Jen is a long-time local with experience in the hospitality industry.

Dean of Students: We have grown the role of the Dean of Students into a part-time position. Initially, Chris Murray had this role as a period a day but the need has grown. Mr. Murray will be part time Dean of Students and part time Athletic Director. He has been working this summer on improving our attendance and discipline procedures.

We are continually working to move the majority of our information online and make our website more informative and user friendly. If you can’t find something on our website please let me know we are continually adding and making improvements.

Registration Paperwork: All registration paperwork will be sent out week, please check your mail. All locker information is on the bottom of demographic paperwork, please have students write down or take a picture of their locker information. We are working with PowerSchool to give students and parents  locker information through the portal. We will not be mailing home schedules and lockers, you must check PowerSchool to see your schedule. We will be turning on the PowerSchool access on Tuesday, August 6th @ 10 am. Please understand we did our best to accommodate all of your students’ requests, but with a small school often times classes conflict and fill up. During our registration process we asked students to identify alternate classes if we could not make their first choices work. Please also understand that due to staff changes, some classes that we had planned to offer are no longer being offered. We believe that your student will be happy with the schedule they have.

PowerSchool:  Power School is a valuable tool for keeping track of student classes, grades, attendance. We encourage everyone to use Power School, you can use one of the links on the website or download the app onto your phone.

If you have a PowerSchool account (student or parent) please log in here: PowerSchool Login

If you would like to meet with Mr. Jones, THS Counselor, to make changes to your schedule please schedule an appointment through Sharon Broady.  You can contact her at sbroady@telluride.k12.co.us. We will only be making schedule changes based on:

  • You passed a class and are registered to take it again.
  • You failed to pass a class and cannot move forward--ex. Alg. 2 to PreCalc.
  • You took a required class over the summer and no longer need to be registered to take it. Bring confirmation to your appointment.
  • You need to alter your schedule in order to meet graduation requirements.

Parking: Our student drivers park in the front lot, only students with a permit will be permitted to park on campus. We will only issue parking permits to seniors. There are spaces designated for teachers and several for guest parking. The remaining spots are for students. Seniors and their parents will receive an email detailing the process for a parking permit.
