Telluride R1

Dear TSD Community,

I want to thank you as we come to the end of another great school year.  I am constantly reminded of how fortunate I am to be here, and how honored I am to serve in Telluride.  We have incredible staff, amazing students and families, and a wonderful community.   We all contribute to the success of each and every student in our district.

Below you will find links to the documents that exemplify our work:

I encourage you to review this information and provide any feedback you feel would further help us in achieving our mission.

I also want to share information about potential ballot measures you may see in November that could impact funding for our school district:
  1. We are strongly considering a Mill Levy Override ballot measure on the local ballot for November.  The most recent presentation that I have been making to local governments, and other groups, can be found HERE.  A mailer will be sent to all voter households in the next few weeks, with a survey link to gather voter feedback.  This is estimated to increase our revenues by $2.6M in its first year.
  2. One statewide ballot measure, initiated by the Colorado Education Association and supported by the legislature through SB26-135, will definitely by on the November ballot.  If passed, this ballot measure would, in most simple terms, increase educational funding by 2% by reducing TABOR refunds in years of TABOR surplus.  Revenues generated would specifically benefit K-12 Public Education.  This is estimated to increase our revenues by $262K in its first year.
  3. A second statewide ballot measure, Initiative 195 sponsored by the Protect Colorado's Future coalition, is currently in the signature gathering stage to get in the November ballot.  If passed, this ballot measure would implement a graduated state income tax, reducing taxes for those with taxable income under $500K, and increasing taxes for those with taxable income over $500K.  Revenues generated would benefit K-12 Public Education, Early Childhood Education, and Health Care.  This is estimated to increase our revenues by $649K in its first year.
We will be holding the following informational sessions on these ballot measures:
  • Thursday, June 4 at 6:00PM in the Bridal Veil Conference Room at Telluride High School
  • Wednesday, June 10 at 6:00PM in the Bridal Veil Conference Room at Telluride High School
  • Tuesday, June 16 at 6:00PM in the Bridal Veil Conference Room at Telluride High School

I wish you all a safe, fun, and relaxing summer!

Gratefully,
John Pandolfo
