TMHS Community

Yes! It feels like June, we are enjoying the outdoors. Our PE classes have been outside, some classes have been doing school work outside and spring sports are in full swing.

We have 10 days until spring break and we are for 10 days packed with learning and state testing. State testing is required for all students, the policies around testing are in our Student Handbook. The data from these tests are important for several reasons:
  • Using data to identify what students need with regards to interventions, supports, and extensions is best practice.
  • Our data and participation rates impact our school accreditations.
  • Teachers use data to determine what is working, where to focus and how to help students grown.
Please note these dates:
  • 7th: 3/30-4/1 Math & ELA CMAS
  • 8th: 3/30-4/1 Math & ELA, CMAS
  • 11th: 4/1-4/2 Science 11 CMAS (2)
  • 9th-11th grade: 4/21: SAT/PSAT -
  • 8th grade: 4/22-4/23 Science

Please reach out with anything. Thank you for your support of our schools.

26 - 27 School Registration

If you are returning for next school please make sure you are registered by April 3rd. We will be building student schedules after spring break and students need to be registered for us to build their schedule. If your child is not returning please let the front desk know.

Tech Update

Initially, we shared information about this at the end of February but questions have been coming up and I wanted to address any concerns. We have decided to move forward with 1:1 for all grades for next year. Thank you all for your input and questions. We will be updating all grade levels to a Chromebook Plus. We are currently in the process of determining the following:
  1. Will all/some have access to personal email on the school issued device?
  2. Will we give students school email addresses?

I know there are many in favor of this and many who have expressed concerns, we have taken all the feedback into consideration to do what is best for the education of students. The main factors in our decision ar:
  • A large majority of high schools are moving to one-to-one devices for several reasons:
  • Cyber security concerns, we are at an increased risk for cybersecurity attack with BYOD.
  • Equity: We want to provide an equitable platform for all students.
  • Ease of instruction: Teachers overwhelmingly supported one to one; they do not have to support a variety of platforms, if something is needed on the computer the tech department can push it out with ease. In addition, while we have banned phones in the school many students on Macs are mirroring their phones on the computers accessing various social media platforms and texting when they should be engaged in class.
  • Phone Mirroring: While we have banned phones many students are mirroring their phones, texting, and not engaging in education by using their phones on their own devices.
  • College Applications: Everything is web based and stored in the cloud/drive, we are working on the email portion and will provide additional information.

If students have their own devices they can use their own devices at home, it is similar to having a work and home computer. All the school information is on the school computer, anything non-school related can be on a personal computer. Please send me any comments or concerns.

ALMA:
We will also be moving to ALMA for our Student Information System. All Registration and scheduling for next year will take place in PowerSchool and we will transition to ALMA on August 1st. We believe ALMA will improve the user experience for all as well as provide the level of security needed to protect data.

School Climate Survey

As part of monitoring our Ends Policy goal of fostering a safe and healthy community through “consistent student and staff culture across buildings which supports achieving our ends”, we will once again have students in grades 3-12, staff, and parents complete the School Climate Assessment Instruments (SCAI) developed and administered by the Alliance for the Study of School Climate (ASSC) in the month of March. The SCAI surveys, which are scientifically developed and third-party administered and analyzed, are rated as one of the most effective school climate tools. Below are the links to the parent survey in both English and Spanish. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey, as it provides valuable data on areas of strength and improvement. This survey will be open through the month of March.

We would like to have all returning students registered for next year before spring break.  Simply login to PowerSchool and click "Forms" on the left.  Check to make sure that all the forms are accurate and up-to-date and then resubmit each form. Forms in most cases will say "Approved", if your student is currently enrolled. Open them anyway check the information and then resubmit the form. In the end all 5 forms should say "Pending".
