Police presence at school today

Dear TSD Community,

I am sending this message to share information and provide clarity regarding an event that happened in our school today.  Some students, parents, and others may have noticed the presence of police officers this afternoon and seen staff members who were visibly emotional.   I want to assure you there was no threat to our school community. 

This situation involved an effort to support a student who was struggling.  Our staff responded with care and demonstrated thoroughness and professionalism as they are trained to do, and I commend them for that. Out of an abundance of caution, additional resources (police officers) were present to help us ensure the well-being of everyone involved.  While this was an emotional moment for students and staff, it was not a safety concern for our schools. 

My heart goes out to the student, their family, and the staff who had a really hard day.  We remain focused on supporting the needs of each and every student and creating a safe, caring, and inclusive environment.
