CARE Team
First, we want to Connect with students. We feel honored to have been chosen by the peer leadership team to connect with students outside the classroom to discuss matters of health and safety.
Forging meaningful connections, we Advocate for a healthy community. Teachers and students can fill out a CARE referral to let our team know of concerns they have for someone’s health, such as addiction to nicotine, binge drinking, signs of depression or anxiety, and self-harming behaviors. It is important to understand that there are no punitive actions involved in our mission, rather we are education-based and looking for systems of solutions and support.
Once the CARE team has reviewed the referral, we Respond with appropriate resources. This will usually involve a closed conversation with the student you are concerned about and looking at options to receive help in avoiding risky behaviors. Again, this will not involve any punishments, rather the discussion will will focus on resources such as counselors and organizations capable of lending a helping hand
By the end of our discussion, we hope the student feels Empowered to make healthy choices, and that they take advantage of the resources provided and will hopefully make better decisions in the future.
