Welcome to Telluride Middle/High School

TMHS Parents:

As we approach the last week of school, I wanted to tell you what a joy it has been to see your children learning in the classroom, performing on the stage, competing on the fields, laughing in the halls and growing up within the walls of TMHS. I am honored to be able to work with your children, our amazing staff, and each of you in helping shape the next generation. I would like to draw your attention to some highlights this spring:

  • Congratulations to THS on being ranked #9 in the State of Colorado by US News and World Report.
  • Our 8th grade team conducted amazing mock trials with the help of many community attorneys this May.  Our 7th grade team held the annual model UN at Wilkinson Public Library this past week.  In both instances of learning, students rose to the occasion and continue to raise the bar of their performances.
  • We bid farewell to Rhonda Muckerman at her last band concert which showed students shining in music and vocals.
  • 36 year veteran teacher, Abby Hamblin, put on her last Art show and will be retiring at the end of the year.
  • Our annual 8th/11th adventure day was a success; we worked in partnership with Telluride Outside to provide a fun and supportive experience for all.
  • More than half of our HS student body took Advanced Placement exams in May. This program continues to grow and students continue to challenge themselves academically.
  • The junior/senior prom was hosted by the junior class at Rustico where students enjoyed an amazing dinner and danced the night away.
  • Our girls’ soccer team finished in the semi-finals in Denver and our track team had several state titles and personal bests at the state meet in Denver.
  • This past week I watched the seniors provide a “senior thank” to our teachers, parade the halls of the district as role models to the younger students, and be honored by their teachers. This class has impressed me at every turn and I am excited to celebrate their graduation at 2 pm this Friday in the Palm.

I set a goal for our school at the beginning of the year focused on creating a culture of collaboration and I love seeing our teachers working together, our students brainstorming together and all of TMHS taking collaboration to the next level. In our staff collaboration this year we worked on a common vision statement for TMHS and we will be rolling it out in August. I am excited about the next steps for our students and our school.

I hope you have a wonderful last week of school and summer. I will be around for the month of June and back the beginning of August. Kim Spaulding (TMS)  and Sharon Broady (THS) will be sending out back to school information on August 6th.  I look forward to seeing everyone on August 22nd for the first day of school.

Best Regards,

Sara Kimble
TMHS Principal
